SJC Presents "Once Upon A Mattress"
Story Written for SJC by Breain Ma'Ayteh, Assistant in Public
Relations.
The Columbian Players of Saint Joseph's College will present the musical comedy "Once Upon a Mattress"
April 18-20 at 8 p.m. in the auditorium of the Arts and Sciences Building. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children.
SJC students, faculty and staff are admitted for free.
Written by Jay Thompson, Dean Fuller, and Marshall Barer,
with music by Mary Rodgers and lyrics by Marshall Barer, "Once Upon a Mattress" provides a fresh look at the classic
fairy tale "The Princess and the Pea." With a Princess named Fred who swims the moat surrounding the castle in her
mad rush to find the prince, a king who can't speak because of being cursed by a witch, and a queen who constantly
thwarts her son's attempts at marriage, "Mattress" delivers surprises as well as laughs.
"(The play) is a good
traditional musical full of songs, dances, and funny business which is both hilarious and touching at the same time,"
said Director John Rahe, Assistant Professor of Communication and Theatre Arts at SJC. "It's a tough musical because
of the number of set changes and types of musical numbers, but we have a talented cast, and the choreographers and
the music director are doing really fine work on their parts of the production."
